Impacts On Food & Environment

Water, Agriculture, and Survival

Water is essential for agriculture and plant growth. It plays a key role in photosynthesis, the process by which plants produce food (Food and Agriculture Organization).

When water is scarce or contaminated, crop production decreases and soil quality is affected. This leads to food shortages and malnutrition, especially in vulnerable communities (World Bank).

Poor sanitation also contaminates groundwater and ecosystems, making natural water sources unsafe (United Nations Environment Programme).
